Week commencing 18th November 2019: National Safeguarding Adults Awareness Week

During National safeguarding Adults Week, Merseyside Safeguarding Adults Board and its partners organised a number of activities and events which included:

  1. A number of radio interviews conducted by Radio Merseyside presenter Tony Snell;
  2. A series of public facing events across all four areas which aimed to raise awareness and promote safeguarding adults;
  3. The organisation and facilitation of a ‘Safeguarding Symposium’ in all of the four LA areas. Each of the symposia centred on local issues/priorities.

Safeguarding Symposia

The theme chosen by Wirral colleagues was Self Neglect. Over 60 people attended including front line staff from a wide variety of statutory, non-statutory and voluntary sector organisations and five members of the ‘Hoarders Helping Hoarders Peer Support Group’ from Liverpool (pictured below)

The symposium was highly interactive and the feedback from attendees was very positive (see below)

The Knowsley symposium was attended by a fabulous mix of 90 people from across the area and included members of the Stockbridge Community Engagement Forum.

Attendees listened to a range of presentations which included: The Voices Project (Merseyside Safeguarding Adults Board); Case studies (Knowsley Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH); Domestic Abuse Pathway (Community Safety Partnership); Door Step Crime and Financial Scams (Trading Standards) and a Q&A session with a Police colleague from the Hate Crime Unit.

The presentations within Liverpool’s symposium focused on two local priority issues: Homelessness and Domestic Violence. Once again, the attendance was excellent, varied and a number of organisations were given the opportunity to showcase their work in the form of stalls pitched around the room.
